Elixir is defined as the quintessence or absolute embodiment of anything. It is also considered as a substance with transformational properties. Throughout mythology, literature, and history, the elixir of life - elixir vitae- has been identified as the ultimate boon that humans seek, the philosopher's stone, the holy grail, the fountain of youth and everlasting life. The elixir of life has been associated with Thoth and Hermes, both messengers of the Gods, inventors of language and writing, and keepers of healing, alchemical secrets.
In Writing Elixir we are on a hermetic quest to journey into the depths of ourselves and retrieve the magical healing elixir of life that is unique to each of us.
“A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered
and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure
with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man."
Joseph Campbell, The Hero With A Thousand Faces
In Writing Elixir, we write to find, express, and share these boons, the elixir that we alone contain within us and are called to find and share, for the good of all.
It is through our act of honoring our true selves and the voice within, by writing and sharing these words, truths, and stories, that we are in fact, heroic!
